My Story

The Technical Stuff

I studied at college and graduated as a cum laude with a Game Design and Development B.S. at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. I’ve always prided myself in being a self-taught individual, but if I was ever going to go to college, it had to be something I was truly passionate about. This degree allowed me to diversify my craft in various areas of the industry such as game design, 3D art, narrative design, coding, and teamwork.

During my last semesters, I started a remote intership at Autonomicity Games as a 3D art generalist. However, my responsibilities extended to liaison for a small local team, Android touchscreen coding, and UI.

I wanted to expand my coding knowledge and experience so I am studying Software Engineering remotely, at Game Dev HQ. My current priority is coding in C# using the Unity Engine, though I love learning new skills and diversifying so whenever I have free time, I like to spend it polishing other skills such as narrative design, or learning more about game design. I even managed to be mentored by industry veterans Flint Dille and John Zuur Platten in the Art of Video Game Writing cohort and worked on Steam game as a narrative designer in the upcoming indie title Hope for Winter.

I am looking to join the video game industry and work on meaningful projects!

The Sentimental Stuff

I remember the first time I felt game development calling out to me. It was Christmas Day, 2001, I had just gotten my first video game console, the Playstation 2, bundled with Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. I spent countless hours swimming around the virtual worlds of Naughty Dog’s latest creation… and I mean literally swimming around. The game had this invincible shark that would gobble up the player if they strayed too far into the ocean, and for some reason, I was compelled to find out why. Why did it work that way? How does it know when to eat me? Why can’t I kill it? How does any of this even work!?

That was the spark.

I had no idea what game development was or how any of this worked, but I knew I’d be creating games. So, I’d sit on the floor with my army of crayons, pencils, and paper and make games. I had always been in love with telling stories, so I started with those. Then I’d move on to whatever passed as gameplay mechanics in the mind of a seven-year-old. At the of 15, I discovered C# and the Unity Engine, the idea of a free tool to make games seemed too good to be true, and although my learning resources were rather limited at the time, I learned about the engine as much as I could.
